The Jack-o’-Lanterns originates from an Irish story about a man called Stingy Jack who tricked the Devil. Legend says that he invited the Devil to have a drink with him. He then convinced him to turn himself into a coin Jack could use to buy their drinks.
The Devil did as told, only to find himself unable to change back to his form because he was kept next to a silver cross. But, once he was let go, he took revenge by condemning Jack to wander the earth, waving a lantern to stray people from their paths.
