Meet the Humpback Whale, aka “the singer”. Can you guess from how far their songs travel?
Adult humpbacks can sing for 24 hours straight, and another whale can hear them from 1600 km. That distance is like you shouting to your friend in Madrid, from Paris (and some more).
Interestingly, their songs changes depending on where they live and over the years. Humpbacks who inhabit the North Atlantic sing one song. In contrast, those around the North Pacific sing a different song entirely of their own.
When they change the tune, all members of the group follow. How they manage to sing together is one of the great mysteries in the animal kingdom.
How do you think they do it?
